Purging dams: theramer’s new product line
| 21. April 2009
Schwelm, Germany 21. April 2009 - During the past three years, theramer GmbH has become established in Russia in the area of ladle cleaning. The techniques which are used there are now being employed in the tundish segment. theramer has succeeded in creating a new innovative development: the manufacturing of monolithic formed purging dams with aligned porosity for usage in the tundish.
If the theramer purging dam is integrated on the tundish floor, non-metallic inclusions in the steel can be averted.
When the gas pressure is turned on, a fine curtain of gas bubbles is created which can gather the impurities and transport them to the surface. It has to be ensured that the covering compound is not ripped open. In comparison to porous purging dams which are often used, the curtain of bubbles on the theramer purging dam only takes place on the top part of the dam, meaning that the upward flushing of heaving impurities due to an uncontrolled release of gas can be avoided.
Purging beams are manufactured in MgO and Al2O3 quality and represent a further beneficial addition to the tundish product range of theramer GmbH.
